At the request of the SBI, a former Member of Parliament of Ukraine suspected of money laundering has been detained in Germany
In Germany, the law enforcement officers detained a former Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the VIII convocation. The State Bureau of Investigation put him on wanted list for money laundering obtained by criminal means.
In 2023, a former Member of Parliament of Ukraine was served notification of suspicion for aiding with manipulations on stock market and legalizing property obtained by criminal means. According to the investigation, while serving as deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Financial Policy and Banking, the former MP conspired with the directors of two private companies to manipulate government bonds on the stock market. These actions resulted in receiving illegal investment profits amounting to UAH 20 million, which were not taxed under the law.
In addition, he and his accomplices carried out financial transactions with funds obtained by criminal means and engaged in actions aimed at concealing and disguising their illegal origin on an especially large scale. This involved the legalization of more than UAH 1 billion from the manipulations on the stock market. The perpetrators legalized criminal income from manipulations involving the purchase and sale of Ukrainian domestic government bonds. This allowed them to receive investment income that was not subject to taxation. They received these funds through a controlled bank (Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
He is also charged with aiding and abetting manipulations on the stock market (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 222-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
After the former MP fled abroad, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv granted permission to conduct a special pre-trial investigation against him.
In October 2025, the investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation completed a special pre-trial investigation and provided the defense with access to the materials of the investigation.
In February, 2026 the indictment is planned to be sent to the court after meeting the deadline for reviewing the case, which the court has set for February 10, 2026.
At the same time, the simplified extradition process may take approximately three months.
The procedural guidance is provided by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
