The SBI employees completed a pre-trial investigation against five law enforcement officers from Mariupol who voluntarily took positions in illegally created by occupants authorities.

In June 2022, three law enforcers ignored the order of their command to leave the territory temporarily occupied by russians. Instead, they voluntarily agreed to take up "new positions" in the so-called "donetsk people's republic police".

The other two law enforcement officers appealed to the occupants with a proposal to cooperate immediately after the invaders captured Mariupol.

Subsequently, they all took an oath of allegiance to russia and gave comments to russian propaganda media, justifying the actions of the invaders.

The five law enforcement officers are accused of voluntarily holding a position in illegal law enforcement agencies established in the temporarily occupied territory by a citizen of Ukraine (Part 7 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years.

Procedural guidance is provided by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
