Based on the SBI materials, customs officers who continued customs-free import of cars after the abolition of the preferential regime will stand trial
The SBI agents has completed a pre-trial investigation against an inspector of the Gorodok customs post of the Lviv Customs who illegally exempted cars imported from abroad from customs duties.
The indictment was sent to court.
It was established that the defendant, together with three colleagues, cleared cars at a zero rate after the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had canceled the decision to exempt vehicles imported into the country from customs duties.
The inspector cleared 17 cars in this way, causing almost UAH 1.5 million in losses to the budget.
In total, four customs officers illegally cleared 47 cars. This "activity" cost the budget more than UAH 3.5 million.
The inspector is accused of abuse of office (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 6 years.
At the request of the State Bureau of Investigation, the court seized the defendant's property for further compensation of the damage caused.
Earlier, the indictment against the defendant's accomplice was submitted to the court, and indictments against other inspectors will be submitted to the court soon.
The Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office provides procedural supervision.
