Ukraine is consistently seeking justice and will do everything to ensure that every war criminal, who committed atrocities against our citizens, is found and punished, regardless of where he is hiding.

Based on materials of the State Bureau of Investigation, the Makariv District Court of Kyiv Region sentenced a serviceman of the Armed Forces of russia in absentia to 12 years imprisonment for violating the laws and customs of war, in particular for raping a civilian woman in the town of Makariv during the occupation in March 2022.

It has been established that a native of Makhachkala (republic of dagestan, russian federation), who served as a platoon commander – commander of a combat vehicle of the 9th motorized rifle company of the 37th separate motorized rifle brigade (military unit 69647, kyakhta, republic of buryatia, russian federation), illegally entered the territory of a private household while he was staying in the town of Makariv.

The perpetrator threatened the woman with a weapon, forced her to leave her home and accompany him to a neighboring house, where, at around 2:00–3:00 p.m. on March 7, 2022, he raped her using physical force and threats of violence.

The State Bureau of Investigation charged him with committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—cruel treatment of civilians during armed conflict, violation of the laws and customs of war.

The court found the russian soldier guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

The public prosecution was carried out by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
