The German law enforcement agencies handed over to the State Bureau of Investigation a former official of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region, suspected of illegally legalizing premium-class cars. The suspect was brought to Ukraine on September 9, 2025, through the Krakivets international checkpoint in the Lviv region.

In the fall of 2015, the official was exposed on illegally registering a luxury car using forged documents and changing the chassis number.

This scheme alone caused over a million in losses to the victims, based on prices in 2015. After being exposed, the suspect managed to leave Ukraine and was staying in Germany.

The man was served notification of suspicion of committing criminal offenses, in particular abuse of power and official forgery. The official was placed on an international wanted list with a preventive measure in the form of detention.

The prosecution of the corrupt official did not stop even ten years after the offense had been committed. After the SBI employees received detailed information about his whereabouts and forwarded it to international partners, he was detained by German law enforcement agencies.

After considering the request from the Office of the Prosecutor General, the German authorities decided to extradite him. The official was immediately detained after his transfer to Ukraine, and the court imposed a preventive measure on him in form of detention.

The former official is suspected of abuse of office, use of official position, which caused serious consequences, as well as the compilation and issuance of knowingly false official documents (Part 2 of Article 364, Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 6 years.

The procedural guidance is provided by the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office.
