The second case of evasion of service by a deputy from the banned political party from Vinnytsia region has been submitted to the court
The employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine, completed another investigation into the evasion of military service by a current Deputy of the Vinnytsia Regional Council, who was elected from the banned political party «Opposition Platform - for Life».
The indictment was sent to the court.
The man served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but only "on paper". From July to November 2022, he was supposed to serve in Chernihiv, but in fact he was at home in Tulchin, Vinnytsia Region. At that time, he unreasonably received military payments in the amount of 209 thousand hryvnias.
After the State Bureau of Investigation uncovered the first fact of evasion, he was transferred to the territorial defense battalion of the Vinnytsia region, where he was listed as a rifleman until May 2023.
Despite the fact that the first proceeding was already in court, the Deputy didn’t draw any conclusions and continued to avoid military service, again staying at home in Tulchyn. From November 2022 to May 2023, almost 200 thousand hryvnias were illegally paid to him.
Thus, not only did he not appear at the military unit twice, but also illegally received about 400 thousand hryvnias of military payments.
In both cases, the man is accused of evading military service and fraud (Part 4 of Article 409, Part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces up to 10 years in prison.
The procedural guidance was carried out by the Vinnytsia Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense of the Southern Region and the Chernihiv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense of the Central Region.
The State Bureau of Investigation once again emphasizes: the law should be one for all. Even after the first exposure, the person involved continued to abuse his status and evade his duty to protect the state. Publicity does not exempt one from responsibility – it only makes it more obliged.
