Court imposes custody as a measure of restraint on Renat Kuzmin at SBI request (VIDEO)
Based on the SBI materials, the court imposed on former MP Renat Kuzmin a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention (in absentia) without an alternative to bail.
He is accused with high treason. SBI employees established during the pre-trial investigation that the MP had disseminated propaganda materials in the media to the damage of Ukraine both before and after the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia.
In particular, starting in March 2021 and even after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Renat Kuzmin voiced propaganda in his speeches, messages on social media and on his own website. Their purpose was to create anti-Ukrainian sentiment in society and informational influence to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability and security of the state.
The suspect's actions are classified under Part 1 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason), which provides for imprisonment for up to 15 years with confiscation of property.
Procedural guidance is provided by the Prosecutor General's Office.
