Maidan cases: According to the materials of the SBI, the former commander of the Berkut from the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea will be prosecuted
The employees of the SBI have completed the investigation of the criminal proceeding against the former deputy commander of the regiment - Chief of Staff of the Berkut Special Purpose Police Regiment of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. He is accused of organizing the use of force against Maidan activists.
The indictment was sent to the court.
It was established that in February 2014 he organized illegal criminal obstruction of meetings and rallies in Mariinsky Park in Kyiv. His subordinates used excessive physical force and special equipment against the protesters, resulting in injuries of varying degrees of severity to 117 participants of the protest actions in the central part of the capital.
Among other, the former law enforcement officer is accused of organizing illegal obstructing of holding of the meetings, rallies, marches and demonstrations by an official in pursuance of an obviously criminal order, with a prior conspiracy by a group of persons, with the use of physical violence (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 41, Article 340; Part 2 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 41, Part 2 of Article 365; Part 3 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 41, Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Due to the hiding of the accused from the pre-trial investigation body on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and on the territory of the russian federation, with the aim of evading criminal responsibility and to put him on the international wanted list, a special pre-trial investigation was carried out against him.
The procedural guidance is provided by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
It should be reminded, that on March 21, 2023, the employees of the SBI have served notification of suspicion of high treason to the former commander of the Berkut special purpose police regiment of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
After the capture of the peninsula, he took the post of the commander of the so-called russian special rapid reaction unit "sobr".
