14 employees of the customs office will stand trial for facilitating the illegal import of petroleum products to a company close to Medvedchuk
The SBI employees have finished the pretrial investigation of 14 employees of the checkpoint "Mukachevo" of the Transcarpathian State Customs Service, through whose actions the state budget lost over UAH 35,5 million. The indictment was submitted to the court.
The indictments were sent to the court.
It was established that during the 2017-2018 years, the enterprises from the circle of influence of Putin's cousin Viktor Medvedchuk imported Ugric oil products - light and medium distillates by rail and road transport from Slovakia. However, the documents stated that the tanks contained gas condensate, which is not classified as an excisable good.
During customs clearance, the customs officers "did not notice" the difference and passed light and medium distillates as gas condensate. This allowed the organizers to evade paying excise tax and VAT for millions of hryvnias.
State Customs Committee officers are accused of neglect of official duties, which caused grave consequences for state interests (part 2 Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Sanctions of these articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 5 years.
Procedural guidance is provided by the Office of the Prosecutor Generals.
