A forester from Zhytomyr region, guilty of a drunken road accident where a teenager died, will stand trial

The employees of the SBI completed a pre-trial investigation into the senior forester of the Krasbirsk forestry of the Radomyshl Forestry State Enterprise in Zhytomyr region. He is accused of committing a car accident while under the influence of alcohol, which caused a minor’s death.

The indictment was filed with the court.

On October 11, 2021, at about 20:30, near the village of Vyshnevichi, a forestry department employee hit a pedestrian with his car.  A 14-year-old boy was walking along the roadside in the same direction. The young man died on the spot as a result of injuries caused.

The driver fled the scene and did not even try to help the victim. Law enforcers promptly traced the perpetrator and established that the forester was drunk. The presence of alcohol in the blood was 2.6 ppm, which is 13 times higher than the allowed level.

Now the forester is charged with violation of traffic safety rules or operation of transport by a person driving a vehicle under alcohol intoxication that caused the death of the victim, as well as leaving in danger (Part 3 of Article 2861, Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanctions of the articles provide for imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years and deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of 5 to 10 years.

Procedural guidance for the pre-trial investigation is provided by the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office.
