The officer of the Office of Assistants Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who gave grenades as a gift to the assistant of the Commander-in-Chief, will face trial

The employees of the SBI have sent to the court proceeding against the officer of the Office of Assistants Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who presented grenades to his deceased colleague Gennadiy Chastyakov.

The investigators of the Bureau completed the pre-trial investigation on March 29, 2024, after which the defense and victims had the opportunity to familiarize with the case materials.

The military, who at the primary stage of the pre-trial investigation was served notification of suspicion of illegal sale of military supplies (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), on that tragic day gave to the deceased person an “explosive gift" with grenades on the occasion of his birthday.

At the same time, he did not warn his colleague about the authenticity of the grenades and did not make sure that he and other attendees in his office realized that he was giving explosive devices.

As the result, when he was unwrapping the "gift" at home, one of the grenades exploded in the hands of Chastyakov, who was sure that those were souvenir glasses. From the received wounds, he died on the spot, and his teenage son received serious bodily injuries.

Defendant is accused in of appropriation and sale of ammunition, murder by negligence and causing serious bodily harm by negligence (Part 4 of Article 410, Part 1 of Article 263, Part 1 of Article 119, Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the Articles for the set of the criminal offenses provides for imprisonment for up to 15 years.
