Germany handed over to Ukraine the Former high-ranking official of the tax service of the Poltava region
On March 3, 2025, at the international checkpoint "Krakivets" of the Lviv region, German law enforcement officers handed over to the employees of the State Bureau of Investigation the Former Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the State Tax Service in the Poltava region. He was wanted for committing a number of crimes.
According to the investigation, the official together with his accomplices, helped to one of the enterprises of Poltava to evade payment of almost 1.3 million hryvnias of taxes. For that purpose, he initiated an unscheduled inspection of the businessman, which resulted in an act with an understated amount of tax liabilities.
Subsequently, the employees sent a tax decision notice with a lower value added tax and, accordingly, lower penalties. That allowed the company to avoid paying a significant amount of taxes to the budget.
After the crime, the defendant left Ukraine and stayed in Germany. Following the consideration of the request of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the competent authorities of Germany decided to extradite him.
The Former official is suspected of complicity in abuse of office, use of his official position, which entailed grave consequences, as well as complicity in the preparation and issuance of knowingly false official documents committed by an organized group (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 364, Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the articles provides for imprisonment for up to 6 years.
