A border guard who attempted to organize the escape of a conscript to Moldova will be tried in Odessa region
The State Bureau of Investigation systematically counteracts attempts of illegal smuggling of conscripts across the state border by stopping such schemes from the very outset.
The employees of the SBI have completed a pre-trial investigation into a border guard inspector who attempted to organize a channel for the illegal departure of men abroad.
The indictment has been sent to the court.
The investigation established that in October 2025, the suspect began negotiations with a potential “client” regarding the illegal crossing of the state border into Moldova. Having access to official information and knowing the specifics of border security, he promised to provide a detailed route for bypassing checkpoints in exchange for $7,000 USD.
For this money, the border guard was supposed to show a “safe” route on the map, determine the time and method of travel, and provide advice on appearance and necessary items.
The law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator while he was still in the process of carrying out his plan, preventing the actual smuggling.
The defendant is charged with illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine and facilitation of this actions by providing advice and instructions, committed out of mercenary motives (Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanctions of the article provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 9 years.
