Law enforcement officer who tried to get rid of bribe while fleeing from SBI will be tried in Odesa region

The SBI's pre-trial investigation of a law enforcement officer who developed a system to profit from individuals involved in ongoing investigations has been completed.

According to the investigation, the law enforcer assisted in concluding agreements between investigators and suspects on sentencing them to a fine instead of imprisonment. In particular, the law enforcement officer demanded a bribe for such a "deal" from a resident of Odesa region, who was suspected of illegal drug cultivation and drug trafficking and was to receive a real term.

In April 2023, the official was detained while receiving the bribe. He tried to get rid of the money by throwing it out the car window while fleeing from law enforcement.

The pre-trial investigation has now been completed and the law enforcement officer has been charged with obtaining an unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The indictment has been sent to court.

The article provides for a sentence of up to 8 years in prison.

Procedural supervision is carried out by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
