The SBI has completed an investigation into criminal proceedings on Viktor Medvedchuk's high treason
Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation have completed a pre-trial investigation into criminal proceedings on suspicion of the People's Deputy of Ukraine from the political party "Opposition Platform - FOR LIFE" Viktor Medvedchuk in committing criminal offenses under Article 111 (High Treason) and Article 438 (Violation of laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Viktor Medvedchuk is accused of attempting to plunder national values, namely illegal oil production and gas on the Black Sea shelf in the area of the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which, according to the Constitution of Ukraine, are the property of the Ukrainian people, committed along with other Ukrainian MP from the political party "Opposition Platform - FOR LIFE" (wanted), Russian officials and other persons.
Moreover, according to the investigation, the People's Deputy of Ukraine assisted russian leadership in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine. He collected information on the location of Ukrainian military formations, conducting combat training activities, and provided assistance in involving Ukrainian citizens in the implementation of measures to the detriment of the state to destabilize the socio-political situation.
The accused faces up to fifteen years in prison with or without confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by an interagency investigation team consisting of the SBI and SSU employees. Procedural guidance was provided by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
