The SBI completed an investigation into a former officer of the Security Service of Ukraine who defected to the Federal Security Service in 2014

The State Bureau of Investigation employees, together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), have completed a special pre-trial investigation into the former SSU officer of the Main Department of the SSU in Crimea on suspicion of high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In 2014, during the occupation of Crimea, he betrayed his military oath and defected to the enemy. The perpetrator enlisted in the military service of the newly created division of the Federal Security Service of russian federation in the annexed territory.

The former officer organized, exercised control and coordinated the activities of certain hacker groups, whose members conducted cyber attacks aimed at unauthorized intrusion into the operation of electronic processing machines (computers), telecommunication networks of state authorities, enterprises, institutions and organizations of Ukraine.

The indictment has been filed with the court.
