The State Bureau of Investigation continues to systematically identify and prosecute traitors and collaborators among former Ukrainian officials, law enforcement officers and military personnel. This work is already showing concrete results as charges against such individuals are being filed with the court in addition to notices of suspicion.

For example, 23 law enforcement officers from Mariupol who betrayed Ukraine will be tried in absentia based on SBI materials.

After the capture of Mariupol, the traitors voluntarily put on enemy camouflage and began to follow the instructions of the invaders, carrying out filtration measures in the Illichivskyi, Primorskyi and Zhovtnevyi districts of Mariupol.

The 23 former law enforcement officers are charged with high treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The article provides for punishment in the form of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The SBI also completed a special pre-trial investigation into a former law enforcement officer from Vovchansk, Kharkiv region.

After the start of the full-scale russian invasion, the man ignored his superiors' order to report immediately to the unit's location and stayed at home waiting for the russian military.

When the russians occupied the village of Dvorichna, the traitor went to negotiate with them for collaboration and got a job in the local prison. On the instructions of the occupiers, he guarded detained citizens and ensured their convoy.

After the liberation of the region, the defendant fled with the occupiers to russia.

He is accused of collaboration and desertion (Part 7 of Article 111-1, Part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the articles provides for a sentence of up to 15 years' imprisonment.

The investigation into seven more law enforcers from Luhansk region who swore allegiance to the enemy has been completed. They voluntarily took up positions in illegal "law enforcement agencies" of Starobilsk, Troitske and Markivka districts.

Indictments against all traitors have been sent to court.

In addition, the SBI served suspicion notices of treason in absentia to six employees of the Starobilsk Pretrial Detention Centre.

All of them remained in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region and swore allegiance to the enemy. The suspects started working under russian laws in the seized Starobilsk SIZO.

Moreover, SBI employees indicted in absentia the chief forester of the Bilovodske Forestry and Hunting Enterprise in Luhansk region of high treason. In April 2022, he became the director of the occupation forestry, encouraged his colleagues who had left to return and "work" for the enemy, and participated in propaganda activities of the russian federation.

The SBI served a notice of suspicion to a rescuer from Volnovakha.
In March 2022, he voluntarily joined the occupation body to take up a senior position as commander of a rescue unit.

All of them were served in absentia with a notice of suspicion of treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years.

Two former chiefs of fire and rescue units from Rubizhne and Novopskovsk, Luhansk region, were also served with a notice of suspicion. After the occupation, they sided with the enemy, reassured the local population and created the illusion that the occupiers' actions were legal.

They are suspected of voluntarily taking up positions in illegal law enforcement agencies established in the temporarily occupied territory (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Procedural guidance is provided by the regional prosecutor's offices.

The SBI warns that no traitor will escape responsibility. Short-term benefits from cooperation with the enemy will turn into a shameful and long imprisonment.
