The SBI detained high-ranking tax official of Zhytomyr region on receiving UAH 200 thousand bribe (VIDEO)

The State Bureau of Investigation continues to take substantial measures to combat corruption among officials, including in the tax sphere.

The SBI employees under the guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office detained the deputy head of one of the departments of the State Tax Service in Zhytomyr region on receiving a bribe. The official was in charge of the budget revenues from excise duty on a certain group of goods.

The tax officer demanded money from a private entrepreneur for not bringing him to administrative responsibility. The entrepreneur had to pay the money for the fact that the tax authorities would "turn a blind eye" to violations of tax legislation revealed during the inspection of the enterprise.

The SBI detained the official on receiving UAH 200 thousand of illegal benefit.

The pre-trial investigation continues.

The criminal proceeding was opened under the article of obtaining undue advantage by an official who holds a responsible position, combined with extortion (Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years with confiscation of property.
