A tax officer from Kremenchuk who had organised a scheme to evade mobilisation for local conscripts is detained by the SBI

The State Bureau of Investigation in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine caught a tax officer in Kremenchuk, Poltava region. He helped citizens of conscription age to avoid mobilisation for money.

The official promised his clients that he can get a conclusion from the military medical commission, according to which the conscript would be declared unfit for service and removed from the military register. For such "service" he demanded USD 4.5 thousand.

Law enforcement officials arrested the officer while he was handing over the forged documents to one of his clients.

The conclusion of the military medical commission, which the accused provided, stated that the conscript had a cardiovascular disease, although in fact the man had no health problems. Same information about his unfitness for service was also recorded in his military card.

The tax official was served with a notice of suspicion of aiding and abetting a group of persons in obtaining an unlawful advantage (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The  sanction of the article provides for 10 years imprisonment.

In addition, other possible sheme accomplices are being identified, including employees of the local military centre.

The Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office is in charge of the procedural guidance.
