The SBI has completed the investigation against the People's Deputy of Ukraine who committed a fatal road accident in Zhytomyr region

The employees of the SBI have completed the criminal proceeding against the People's Deputy of Ukraine, who committed a fatal road accident in Zhytomyr region.

The incident happened on the Kyiv-Chop highway in the Berezivka village, Zhytomyr region, at about 10:00 AM on November 3rd, 2023.

The indictment was sent to the court.

The car driven by the People's Deputy ran into the pedestrian. It was established that the driver, contrary to the requirements of the traffic rules, was moving from the capital to Lviv with exceeding the speed limits. In particular, speed cameras on the Kyiv-Chop highway recorded the exceeding of the permitted speed limit by 40 to 50 km/h, including the fact that one of the cameras recorded such excessive speed within the village where the tragedy occurred. This fact was also confirmed by photo-technical expertise.

At that time, a18-year-old local resident was running across the road in the village. The driver, by exceeding the permitted speed, hadn’t taken enough measures to reduce the speed or to stop the vehicle that let to the hitting of the victim. The girl died from her injuries at the scene.

The investigation established that the driver's compliance with the requirements of the traffic rules regarding driving at a permitted speed as well as timely braking would have enabled the victim to cross the roadway.

It should be reminded that the perpetrator was systematically brought to administrative responsibility by the patrol police for speeding. Only during 2022-2023 there were 22 decisions made against him to bring to administrative responsibility under Part 1 of Article 122 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

The People's Deputy of Ukraine is accused in violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle that caused the death of the victim, that is, in committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The sanction of the Article provides imprisonment for up to 8 years.
