Within 10 years the SBI has become a full-fledged element of the law enforcement system, – Sapyan
Within 10 years the State Bureau of Investigation has gone from being a newly created structure to a powerful element of Ukraine's law enforcement system. This was emphasized by Tetyana Sapyan, Communications Advisor of the SBI, during the «United News» broadcast on the 1+1 TV channel.
She reminded that on November 12, 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the SBI's creation. In 2015 a decision was made to establish the Bureau and in 2024 the President of Ukraine introduced an official holiday — The State Bureau of Investigation Day.
«Within 10 years, the Bureau has gone a long way from a newly created structure to a full-fledged element of the law enforcement system that fights for justice and brings the guilty to justice», – said Tetiana Sapyan.
She said, the war has significantly changed the work of the Bureau. After the liberation of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions, it was the SBI investigators who recorded the war crimes committed by russian military personnel. In addition, the active investigations into crimes of the high treason and collaborationism are ongoing — there are currently more than 3,000 cases, 1,300 indictments out of them have already been sent to court. The first verdicts have also been made. Four Members of Parliament are being held in pretrial detention, under suspicion, in particular, for the high treason.
Today the SBI employs approximately 1,900 people throughout Ukraine, including the central office and seven regional offices. Despite the temporary occupation of part of the territory, all departments continue to operate in areas controlled by Ukraine. The Bureau is handling about 300,000 criminal cases, compared to only 10,000 in 2021. On average, each investigator handles more than 600 cases, but the employees demonstrate a high level of professionalism and responsibility.
Among the achievements is active work to seize russian assets. A record amount of UAH 2.6 billion from the online casino Pin-Up was transferred to the state. In 2025 alone, entities were prevented from receiving more than UAH 44 million in bribes.
«Ten years is just the beginning of a long journey. The State Bureau of Investigation will continue to work consistently to strengthen the rule of law, protect the state, and restore justice for every citizen of Ukraine», – emphasized Tetyana Sapyan.
