The SBI identifies new participants of cruel torture in the State Institution «Poltava detention center»

The employees of the State Bureau of Investigation established the involvement of two more employees of the State Institution «Poltava detention center» in the torture of a prisoner.

According to the investigation, the victim was tied to a bed and kept for more than a day and a half without food, water and access to the toilet. Earlier, for that fact, notifications of suspicion were served to the duty and senior corps of the department of regime and protection, which directly brought the victim into the room and fixed him on the bed.

Currently, the investigators of the SBI have established, that the senior in the corps and a junior inspector of the department of regime and protection are also involved in torture. They participated in the abuse of the prisoner and also applied physical restrictions.

Both of them were served notifications of suspicion of torture under Part 3 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They were served a petition for the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention.

The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to 12 years.

The investigation has also established, that the defendants were trying to destroy the videos from the surveillance cameras, but the employees of the SBI managed to seize the data storage device with the recorded evidence of the crime.

For the safety of the victim, at the initiative of the SBI, he was transferred to another institution.

The investigation is ongoing.

The SBI continues to establish all the episodes and persons involved in the torture.
