The SBI has exposed law enforcement officer from the Sumy region who was selling the information about checkpoints and passwords to the residents of the borderland territories

The employees of the SBI, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine and the internal security of the State Border Guard Service, have served notification of suspicion to the law enforcement officer from the Sumy region, who was selling information with limited access to residents of the borderland territories.

In February 2024, he offered the local resident to help with unhindered movement by the car within the border area. That local resident was trying to take his belongings out from the war zone to a safer place. The law enforcement officer promised to provide information about the location of the special units and checkpoints of the Defense Forces and passwords for their passage.

The defendant also threatened that in case of refusal, he would personally prevent the local resident from moving within the border areas.

He has managed to get 30 thousand hryvnias from the man for information that was provided for several months since April 2024.

The law enforcement officer is suspected of receiving an illegal benefit, combined with extortion and of disseminating information about the movement and location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Part 3 of Article 368, Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the Articles provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years.
