The SBI uncovered a scheme of illegal goods smuggling worth millions of hryvnias at Lviv Customs
The State Bureau of Investigation has stopped an illegal scheme of importing consumer goods into Ukraine with "empty trucks".
In particular, the SBI officers served a notice of suspicion to a state inspector of the Yavoriv customs post of Lviv Customs, who helped the businessmen avoid paying mandatory payments to the budget of more than UAH 1 million.
The official authorized the entry of a truck carrying household appliances, leather goods, heating boilers, branded clothing, and children's toys into Ukraine. The official hid the true cargo contents and registered the truck as empty. As a result, customs payments totaled less than UAH 1.1 million for the state budget.
The inspector was served a notice of suspicion of abuse of office and forgery (Part 2 of Art. 364, Part 2 of Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The penalty provided for in the articles is imprisonment for up to 5 years.
The Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office is providing procedural supervision.
