The SBI exposed the facts of cruel torture in the State Institution «Poltava detention center»

The employees of the SBI, with the assistance of the leadership of the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine, exposed the facts of systematic torture of prisoners in the State Institution «Poltava detention center». The two employees of the institution have already been served notifications of suspicion.

According to the investigation, the employees of the institution were torturing the people who refused to cooperate with the administration, violated the schedule or complained about the actions of employees. For this purpose, on the territory of the medical unit there was equipped a special room, which was used as a torture chamber.

In a small room, prisoners were tied to a metal bed, left without food, water or access to a toilet for several days. One of the victims over the past three years has experienced such abuse more than ten times.

A few days ago, the operations officers of the SBI recorded another abuse of prisoners. Two employees of the institution - the duty and senior corps of the department of regime and protection - were served notifications of suspicion of torture (Part 3 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They are the ones who took the victim to the room and tied him to the bed.

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided.

The sanction of the Article provides for imprisonment for up to 12 years.

Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the episodes and the full range of persons involved in the torture.
