The SBI notified six employees of the occupation correctional structures and two law enforcers from Kherson region of suspicion
The SBI employees served notices of suspicion in absentia to five former employees of the Northern Correctional Colony and one pre-trial detention center employee from Kherson, who defected to the occupiers after the russian invasion. A couple from the Kherson region, who helped the occupiers "stabilize the crime situation" in the occupied region, was also notified of suspicion.
Thus, the assistant head of the department of the Northern Correctional Colony became the "deputy head of the department of the penal service in the Kherson region". This occupation structure was created in the occupied territories of Ukraine and operated under russian law.
Another defendant also jumped from the position of inspector of the colony's food supply organization to the position of "deputy head" of the illegally created body.
Four other suspects also found jobs at a higher rank. All of them carried out the orders of the invader and ensured the work of the institution, which became part of the "federal penitentiary service" of the russian federation and acted under the laws of the aggressor country. It is known that the defendants held Kherson patriots, whom the occupier threw into cells for refusing to obey.
The suspects are currently hiding in the temporarily occupied territory on the left bank of the Kherson region.
They were served a notice of suspicion of treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
From the first days of the russian invasion, the spouses of two former law enforcement officers from Kherson region were appointed to positions in the occupation structures and were "stabilizing the crime situation" in the region.
In March 2022, the husband accepted a position as an operative in the occupation police, and his wife, who had been a private, was promoted from a position to an "inspector on special assignments" with access to russian "state secrets" in a few months.
The couple "identified" local offenders to "stabilize the crime situation" in the region.
The former law enforcement officers are suspected of voluntarily taking up positions in illegal law enforcement agencies established in the temporarily occupied territory (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to 15 years with confiscation of property.
The Kherson and Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Offices are providing procedural supervision.
