The SBI served suspicion notices to traitors from Mariupol, including the occupiers' appointed "mayor" of the city captured and destroyed by the aggressor
The SBI, together with the National Police, issued suspicion notices in absentia to the so-called "mayor" of the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol, as well as an employee of the Mariupol Prison, and 10 former law enforcers who are currently working for the occupation administration.
After the seizure of the city, the law enforcement officer, who had previously been convicted of aiding a terrorist organisation, willingly agreed to take up the position of the so-called "head of the Mariupol city administration". At present he organises the work of the occupation authorities under the leadership of the invaders.
Another traitor, an employee of the pre-trial detention centre, allowed representatives of the russian armed forces to enter the territory of the detention centre. The prisoners who agreed to support the occupation regime were released from the prison, the fate of the others is unknown.
For his active cooperation with the occupants, the suspect was appointed head of the pre-trial detention centre of the so-called "State Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the donetsk people's republic".
It was also established that in 2022, despite their oath, 10 employees of various law enforcement bodies in the Donetsk region betrayed the Ukrainian state, defected to the enemy and started working for the occupation authorities.
They voluntarily took up positions in illegally created bodies on the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region, namely the "donetsk people's republic police units of the Mariupol district".
The so-called "mayor" was served in absentia with a notice of suspicion of collaboration (Article 28(2), Article 111-1(5) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), the employee of the pre-trial detention centre was served with a notice of suspicion of high treason (Article 111(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and the former law enforcement officers were served with a notice of suspicion of high treason committed during martial law (Article 28(2), Article 111(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The penalty under this article is up to life imprisonment.
The General Prosecutor's Office and the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office provide procedural guidance in criminal proceedings.
