The SBI is verifying the involvement of the official of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant suspected of desertion in assistance to the russians in the occupation of the nuclear power plant
The State Bureau of Investigation continues systematic work to expose traitors who defected to the enemy and collaborated with the occupiers.
Thus, in March 2022, the SBI employees, in cooperation with the SSU, detained the deputy director-general of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, who was absent without leave from a place of service under the martial law and was hiding on the territory of the Zakarpattia region. He was already notified of the suspicion of absence without leave from a military unit or place of service and failure to timely report for duty without a reasonable excuse, committed under martial law or in a combat situation (Part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and placed into custody.
The serviceman left the plant and did not ensure the physical protection of the facility, which was part of his job responsibilities. Additionally, in course of the investigation, employees of the SBI are verifying the possible involvement of the official in subversive activities against Ukraine. In particular, they need to determine whether he assisted in the invasion of the CNPP by russian troops at the end of February.
The SBI employees, in cooperation with the SSU staff, searched the administrative premises of the CNPP. Several searches were also conducted at the place of residence of the suspect. During the investigative activities, documents and digital storage devices were seized. In addition, the investigators interviewed witnesses. Psychological expert examination and interrogation of the CNPP officials are scheduled.
According to the results of the conducted investigative actions, the issue of notification of suspicion of high treason will be considered (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Procedural guidance is carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Military and Defense Sphere.
