ABOUT THE BUREAU
The State Bureau of Investigation is a new law enforcement agency, for creation of which Ukraine has been waiting for 20 years.
From the beginning of its operations the functions of pre-trial investigation were passed from prosecutor’s offices to the SBI, and the function of supervision remained with prosecutor’s offices.
These are standards for objective and impartial investigation.
The SBI is investigating into the crimes committed by high-ranking officials, judges, law enforcement officers, as well as against those who had committed war crimes.
Adopting the Constitution of Ukraine, Members of the Parliament noted in the Transitional Provisions that the prosecutor's office continues to perform the function of pre-trial investigation until an agency with such powers begins to work.
The mission of the State Bureau of Investigation is to establish justice in society through an independent, comprehensive investigation of crimes in order to bring the perpetrators to justice, regardless of their positions, connections and resources.
